The Lyes about African American Natural Hair Styles

First ,,,Relaxers are bad for your hair. Just reading the other night I found that when you use a relaxer in your hair which contains lye, that’s the same lye that’s found in Drano. The same advertisement used in un-stopping drains. More and more sisters are beginning to stop using these product in there hair and going to an natural black hair style. African American hair is normally dry so chemicals add to the dryness and damage it. Which will cause to breakage and hair loss over time.

No lye relaxers are very popular, I guess because it leads people to think that there’s no harm to your hair but look what I found. But my people what I read about what's used there...let me tell ya.

Usually with the no-lye relaxer, it’s a combination of calcium hydroxide and guanidine carbonate that are combined to form guanidine hydroxide, that can easily be used to clean a kitchen sink. Sisters this is what’s used to relax the hair instead of using lye. Both products are harmful to you, what you may have to think about is, how do you really value your hair.

There are products out there on the market that doesn’t use some form of harmful chemical to relax your hair. But are there products that can be used to make your hair relax without using lye or no-lye chemical.

My sister-in-law (professional hair stylist and Salon owner for over 8years) said that she worked for a stylist years ago that would not use any chemicals on her clients hair, that she used oils and natural minerals to product a natural hair style.

What I was told by in sister-in-law is that for most of the African American women and especially young women, it's more important to look good and by that I mean to relax their hair into the many different styles that to have a healthy head of hair. As the sister's are getting older, after going through the many stages of relaxing their hair in the past, some are becoming aware and going to the natural African American hair styles.

The best way to maintain and care for African American hair is the natural hair style. Sisters you were Beautiful in the 60's and early 70's with the various styles and I know with the minds that our Beautiful people have. We can come up with many ways to wear our hair that will not cause for putting lyes and all that junk into your hair. You deserve better.

Any stylist worth anything will tell you that. You must decide if you want to lose your hair or not. I did find a book that talks about how to style your hair naturally. No more lyes or drain cleaners, only beautiful natural African American styles.
